[Linux-bruxelles] cannot update in lynx

hello,

i have lynx installed on an asus eee and i have not been able to 
update/grade or download anything neither via synaptic nor thru the 
terminal.
i get the message
failed to fetch http:....

and that is it then.
i have a working internet connection and i chose the best server (which 
worked) to mirror.

any suggestions?
