If you're on the blinux list,
You've seen the recent discussions about javascript.
Well, Cheryl is right.
We can't function, any longer, using a browser that does not
support javascript. Too many websites are off limits.

What to do?

I just downloaded the source for links the chain.
The javascript interpreter alone is 8800 lines,
which I would rather not reinvent.
Other modules, cookies, html tags, etc,
are also better than mine, and could be reused.
The catch is, it's all in C,
and edbrowse is in perl, so I'd have to port.
This is not trivial!

An open question is, how to tap into perl regular expressions from C.
I don't want to give that up.
When you're use to perl regexp, you never go back to ed.

I don't know if there is a firm conclusion to this message,
except to say that I am considering a port of edbrowse from perl to C,
looking to javascript support in the future.
If I can find the time for this work, spare time of course,
I'll probably be "deep in the plaktou" for many months.
Also, for you windows users, I really don't know if the C version
will run there.
Perl is automatically portable, but C may not be,
especially these javascript routines.
That's an open issue.

Karl
