Multidisciplinary team for Bioinformatics

A new non-for-profit organisation, set up by the Brussels Region and
the Universite Libre de Bruxelles to develop state of the art
bioinformatics methods and software, is recruiting highly qualified
staff for its research and development projects. The main project is
in the area of functional genomics. It concerns the development of
aMAZE, an integrated system for storage, management and querying
information on metabolic and gene regulation networks, transport, and
signal transduction.

Several positions are available immediately to join the aMAZE team, in
order to develop professional level software targeted to Academic and
Industrial scientists world-wide, with whom frequent contacts will
take place. Team work skills are an important requirement, while
knowledge of French is not mandatory. For the IT positions, previous
experience in working in a scientific environment will be an
advantage.


* Biologists or Biochemists to work on data annotation

He/she will annotate and curate biological and biochemical
data. He/she will have the opportunity to work closely with
programmers, database developers, and experimental scientists.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry
or biology and possess basic scripting/programming experience.


* Computer Systems Administrator

He/she will be in charge of the administration of the computer
systems. His/her first task will be to design, install and maintain
the new computer systems used by the team.

The successful candidate should have proven experience in Unix system
administration, including server management, networking and security
aspects.


* Database Administrator

His/her main task will be to install and manage the database
servers. His/her will also assist the scientists in the design and the
optimisation of the various databases needed for the ongoing research
and development activities.

The successful candidate should have proven experience with management
of relational databases. Knowledge of Oracle will be an advantage.


* Programmers

They will be in charge of the maintenance, testing and further
development of the aMAZE kernel, tools, and interfaces. They will be
involved in the design process of the system.

The successful candidate should have proven experience in
Object-Oriented programming and in some of the following technologies,
JAVA/RMI/EJB, C/C++, CORBA, SQL, Client-Server, GUI. Knowledge of
relational databases will be a definitive advantage.
